Who needs a chump slap?

I love this cover of The Independent. Well, I don't love it. It's heartbreaking. But I hope it drives home the point of how out of step the U.S. is. Really, are we trying to promote the immolation of the Middle East?

The US has a policy of fighting back. That's what the administration says we're doing in Iraq. If the administration suddenly told Israel to stop fighting back, they'd undermine their own policy.

I also think they are happy to see themselves alone with regard to their opposition to an immediate cease fire. They see themselves as the only ones who know how to fight terrormism. The other contries are soft on terrorism and softness encourages more terrorism, as they see it.

I could go on and on with this. I have already, but I deleted most of it, because it's too much for a blog comment.

I just reread my comment and if I didn't know myself, I'd say I support the US and British policy. That is not the case. Sometimes I try to explain why I think someone is behaving the way they do or how they would explain their actions if they were around to do so. Anyway, I don't approve of the US policy with regards to the Middle East and haven't for some time -- since Jan. 20, 2001.

It looks to me like the way the US is fighting terrorism is stoking the fires that fuel it.

Rigtenzin -- I know what you mean. Sometimes I try to get inside their heads to understand their motives. But then I get sick and have to leave. I was waiting for Condoleeza Rice to turn around, as she entered the helicopter at the Beirut airport, and yell, "Burn, baby burn!"

So depressing. I'm feeling like the robot, Marvin, in "A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" lately, as I'm sure most of us are lately - including those closest to Dubya.

In weary, sad voice, "I'd make a suggestion, but you wouldn't listen."
