Disturbing food chain + Festivus

Wow. I thought most of these old-school-like graphics had died and gone to someone's basement. From Your Logo Makes Me Barf.
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly
Thanks to Barfer Nathrek for sending this to us from Sydney.

To obtain the most sustainable food, one must feed a lamb to a pig and a pig to a cow and stand the whole mess over a non-plussed chicken. Then the sustainability gods will be most pleased.

Bonus Barfiness!
A Festivus Miracle!
In the holiday spirit, I’d like to air my grievances against Tan Cun, our final tanning salon logo entry for the time being.

Strike 1: You named your salon as if you’re designing joke business ads for the school paper.

Strike 2: Then you made two of your six letters into objects. A third of your logo is a visual pun.

Strike 3: Finally, the whole damn thing is sitting on an island. This is ridiculous.

"Homicidal imp." What's not to love with that moniker? Apologies in advance for any ad at the beginning of the audio.

Housering

One very interesting ring. Looks like it could be used as a weapon. Would also make a great napkin ring. j davis studios

GPS for Baby Jesus

From today's mental_floss Water Cooler Ammo e-mail.

I'm not sure what kind of person would steal a Baby Jesus from a nativity scene, but if this problem has plagued your community, a company called BrickHouse Security has a solution. They're providing free GPS trackers to help recover Jesus should your local crèche be robbed this Christmas.

GPS for Baby Jesus
The story on BrickHouse's web site made me giggle. The header:
Jesus Saves, But Who’s Saving Jesus?

Downside: more e-mail; upside: helpful

Get free e-mail reminders from NudgeMail | Webware - CNET

E-mail makes me crazy. But NudgeMail, delivered via e-mail, is not crazy making. Send a message to nudge@nudgemail.com to remind yourself to do something on a particular day or time. Presto! Your e-mail reminder shows up when you asked it to. Incredibly easy and since it's in beta, it's free. You don't even need to sign up for anything. Pretty slick.

An agency we work with sent this lovely treat. The box is delightful. And the chocolates were good, too.

Pooh Pooh the blues: Communist Christmas

Joe Veitch is brilliant silly. This Christmas song from Rather Good is horrible. In a good way. It does, however, like many Rather Good songs, quickly become an earworm.

I want to sneak this into my Christmas playlist and see if anyone catches it.

Lazy hounds

A little breakfast and back to bed. I would have liked to do that this morning. Sophie and Pele both got themselves under the blankets.

Annoying Christmas Music

I love it when Jim Nayder is on Weekend Saturday. It means you're in for a craptastic treat. This latest edition includes Bob Dylan signing "Hark the Herald Angels Sing." And a very disturbing re-do of the theme from the Brady Bunch that begins, "There's a story. About a girl name Mary." I'm thinking of downloading "Santa Doesn't Smoke Anymore." Indescribably horrid.

One more snow photo

The wind sounds very sinister. The dogs are not at all pleased to be forced outside now and again.

Schnee! Snow!

There's a crazy amount of snow. If you don't have to go anywhere it is gorgeous! My front stairs have disappeared.

The view across the street is beautiful.

Ad Awards: Safety instructions

Went to the British Television Advertising Awards last week. Lovely winners. But alas, no PG Tips Monkey. That was very disappointing. I did adore this one from Thomson Airways.

Happy Christmas from the Pogues

The Pogues have a lovely Christmas ditty, "Fairytale of New York." The song begins: "It was Christmas Eve in the drunk tank."

A friend has a Christmas CD from the three tenors, or a similar group, and it includes this song. There's not much stranger than listening to world-renowned singers performing this song.

From Wikipedia this fun fact:
"The song has become a festive classic in Ireland and the UK over the years, and was voted the best Christmas song of all time three years running in 2004, 2005 and 2006 in polls by music channel VH1 UK,"

I couldn't watch the full video, I just listened. Shane MacGowan's teeth kept distracting me. There were a few other versions of this song on YouTube. Most of them with MacGowan, seemingly, in various states of inebriation.

Sniffing, rats and landmines

Bart Weetjens on how and why he is training rats to sniff out land mines and TB. How fabulous is this?

One day I would love to go to TED. (You have to apply, and be accepted, to go.)

Short bread

I made bread the other day. It turned out rather short. Maybe the yeast was old or I didn't get the amount of water right. Or, it could be that I dropped the bread machine on the floor before using it.

Tastes good if rather dense.

Pooh Pooh the blues: Sue Sylvester

The best part of Glee is cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester. If the character was a real person she would be a horrible human being. But as a character on a TV show, she is fall-down hilarious.

Queen's message delivered by Monkey

Going to the British Advertising Awards at the Walker tonight. A spectacular show every year!

My favorite ads always include the PG Tips Monkey. This is one of last year's. Monkey as the Queen makes me incredibly happy!

The Most Boring Logo We Could Find

I really hope they didn't pay money to get this logo. I'm not saying that to be snarky. I really hope they didn't waste any money on this. It makes me sad.

The Most Boring Logo We Could Find:
Another logo in the “Geography is Important” camp: The Whiteside County Health Department made a logo that is one step above typing the words out on one line.

So, you know, one step above this: “Whiteside County Health Department”.

Who's the nicest shipper?

I would like to work at Popular Mechanics. I bet you get to do all sorts of cool experiments.

After a package to a sweepstakes winner arrived in pieces, the people at Popular Mechanics tried an experiment. They shipped three packages via the big three carriers. The packages had sensers in them. Results are below. According to the magazine, "The overnight shipping industry is a modern technological and logistical wonder, but it can inflict medieval damage on parcels."

Happy loungey Christmas

What's better than lounge-style Christmas songs? Nothing. Unless the songs are in German. Goetz Alsmann, you make me so happy.
There's a bit of intro at the beginning. The song kicks in about 0:50.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Julia. I learned about Herr Alsmann on her blog.

Pooh Pooh the blues: Bill McNeal

How I miss Phil Hartman. He played egomaniacal and self-absorbed like no one else.

In the video he is playing Bill McNeal, a spectacular jerk, on News Radio. The video quality isn't great but you get the idea.
