I was eating dinner tonight and realized that the remaining bit of sausage looked a lot like a human finger, with fingernail. It made me laugh out loud. It wasn't a finger. I wouldn't have laughed at that. Rather, it was a quite tasty thing and I believe the nail-like part was either apple or gouda. It was, after all, a Sweet Apple Gouda sausage from Aldi. The same Aldi where I found the lovely Bavarian specialties on Sunday. The white sausage was so lovely. With a bit of spaetzle, pure lunch bliss.
Back to the finger. My finger. My bruise is still there and appears to be growing. It is now dark purple. I had a pedicure yesterday. I should have asked them to paint all the nails to match.

OHMIGOSH! It DOES look like a finger!! I wouldn't be surprised. Aldi is a frightening place.
I have to say, Sophzilla, a new, more macabre side of you is bursting force. What up wit dat? I liiiiike it!
Congratulations - you have just pushed me over the edge. I believe I will HAVE to be a vegetarian now!
Sausage and bacon are gross. Have you ever imagined a setting where people are the livestock?
I attempted to shop at Aldi one time. I got to the checkout and found they only take cash or something. I just remember that they didn't want my check card. I always use a check card for food purchases. Then it goes into the correct bucket in the budget. If I used cash, the purchase would be lost in misc.
You don't want to be there.
gWow Rig - You really are low on the Mach scale. Life is all about the "Misc".
"Break on through to the other side..."
PS - My Dad was a USDA Scientist/Vet. Pretty much the ONLY food he refused to eat was Sausage. Makes you wonder....
When you say "sausage" do you mean, only sausage? Or are hotdogs included?
Oh Yeah - Hot dogs LEAD the way...
"Sometimes I wish I didn't know now - things I didn't know then..."
I usually refer to hot dogs as pig snouts. My Mom really likes it when I do this.
About Aldi. I admit, it's odd. But it allows me to channel a lit bit of Germany, however briefly. Aldi, and other like stores I visited in Switzerland, often have a similar, interesting hodge podge of products. But, they aren't as Wal-Marty as Aldi here. Unlike Wal-Mart, a place I now refuse to go, I don't hear people yelling at their kids or see them yanking their kids about the store. I lovingly call Wal-Mart the Devil's Little Sweatshop.
Thanks for your comment, Michael. (And thanks for siding with me on the sausage issue.) Welcome to the blogiverse!
Yeah BOCA sausage is great.
Wait, MOLM, isn't that a lyric??
Harry Belafonte was thinking of changing the last line in "Jamaica Farewell":
Down at the market you can hear
Ladies cry out while on their head they bear
Ackie rice and salt fish is nice
BOCA sausage is great any time of year.
He decided against it and left the original line:
And the rum is good any time of year
EVERYONE SING:
"But I'm sad to say, I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town"
Wow. How you made the leap from Boca to Belafonte, I never will know.
Amazing.
I love sausage, especially Bratwurst, and I love Aldi. And here in Germany they take check cards!
But most things ARE better overseas. I guess Aldi included?
I went to an Aldi's in Berlin a few years back - I didn't buy any sausage - but they did have an INCREDIBLE assortment of Chocolates and Beer.
I also went to an Aldi's in Chicago. Not quite the same...
Hey Julia - what are the names of those things they sell at those food stands in Berlin - they're big and hot and real spicy - kind of like a Gyro - but I believe they were turkish. Any idea what I'm talking about?
:-)Yeah, maybe or probably. But they changed a lot at Aldi's over the last two years. For a long time it was the only store that closed at 18.30 and did not take check cards.
And I guess things you are used to won't taste the same over here!
If it's turkish it's probably doener kebab. Was it with bread?
THAT WAS IT!!! Served in a big pita like sandwich. MMMMMMM....Ok - I'm not a vegetarian anymore.
Honestly - that was the greatest 'food stand' meal I've ever had - And I lived in NY for 4 years!
Thank you Julia. I will go home and listen to Disc 1 of The White Album in your honor!
:D Thank you so much! Every day a good deed!
Oh, doener kebab... I'm am crying tears of joy and longing. Definitely the best food stand treat ever! A very close second are the warm cinnamon sugar coated almonds served in a cone. OK, where's my passport?
Mmmm....finger sausage :)
That's too funny!
It's really the finger of some medieval saint. You could receive hundreds of thousands on e-Bay for it.
So...did you freeze or eat it?
I'm hoping she tossed it in the garbage. Ew.
Throw it? It deserves a respectful and decent burial.
C.
"Throw it? It deserves a respectful and decent burial."
Snort!
Hey, you aficionados of German delicacies. I was given some chocolates by a friend who just returned from a trip overseas.
They are cute little dark chocolate bottles, which have "Asbach" written on their wrappers. This stuff is lethal! and delicious!
Can you tell me more about Asbach?? I hear it's the bomb and is put in coffee? is that true? I got a teensy buzz off of the bit in the chocolate bottle. Wheee!
Hi electchick,
try this:
asbach
There you'll find all about Asbch.
You can get all the Asbach supplies you want here:

I'm pondering the possibility of an "Asbach Abendgesellschaft"
What Say Ye Bloggers?
Oh wow! And they have Niederegger Marzipan! That's the best!!!
Wow. I have been enlightened. Who knew? Another entire world I never knew existed. And a tasty one at that!
Thanks MOLM for hooking us all up to GDH imports. I feel like I'm fresh out of rehab and stumbling upon someone else's secret stash -- but in a really good way. Marzipan... food of the gods.
